India's most experienced fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been injured before the Test team was announced for the tour of New Zealand. Ishant suffered an ankle injury during the Ranji match. Ishant, who is playing for Vidarbha against Delhi, is yet to be ascertained but he was groaning in pain and with the help of support staff, he walked out of the stadium. Ishant took three wickets for 45 runs in Vidarbha's first innings.
Ishant got hurt in the fifth over of Vidarbha's second innings. On the short ball, opposing captain Faiz Fazal attempted to play a pool shot and Ishant slipped in Phalothro which resulted in his ankle injury. He had to immediately seek medical help after being taken off the ground with the help of paramedics. However, it is not yet clear how serious the injury is and how long they will have to rest. If the injury is serious, they may have to go to NCA for rehab.
Ishant's injury is also a cause of trouble because there was speculation about his selection in the Test team for the tour of New Zealand. This was also his last match of this Ranji season.
Gaur Ho will play 5 T20 matches, three ODIs and 2 Test matches on the tour of New Zealand. Starting on 24 January 2020, the series will end on 4 March. The first Test will be played from 21 February to 25 February and the second Test from 29 February to 4 March.
