Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was once again able to prove his usefulness in the middle overs in the team's return which also impressed India's acting captain Rohit Sharma. After the ODI World Cup, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav were not included in the T20 series against West Indies and South Africa.
The selectors wanted to try new players for the T20 World Cup to be played next year. Chahal made a comeback against Bangladesh, while Kuldeep is still waiting for a chance in the team. Rohit said here on Saturday before the third and decisive T20 against Bangladesh, "It is a very new team but for the last 2 years, Chahal's performance in the limited overs format has been amazing." He has also done well in the ODI format.
The Indian captain said, "He made a place in India's ODI team on the basis of good performance in the IPL. He has been an important member of the team since then and he also proved in this series how useful he is for the team in the middle overs. Rohit said that Chahal is successful in dodging the batsmen with his thinking which makes him different from other bowlers. In Rajkot's second T20 international, he played a key role in reducing Bangladesh's run-rate by taking the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim and Soumya Sarkar in the same over.
He said, "Chahal knows what he is trying to do and he also knows what the batsman is trying to do. He always wants to be ahead of the batsman in the game. For this reason, it becomes more challenging for any batsman to face him. He has understood it well. He lacks variety and skills.
